DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE Edmonton
Best deep tissue massage edmonton
Deep tissue, therapeutic based massage is a satisfying massage that sometimes utilizes deeper pressure and is for the purpose of accessing deeper tissues to give your body a healthy feeling of being unwound. Experience the deeper, penetrating therapy that your body has been craving.
Deep tissue is a penetrative therapy that can sometimes feel like firmer pressure, but it doesn’t have to be. It simply means we are specifically targeting tissues that are underneath the superficial layers of tissue. For example, the trapezius is a superficial tissue, whereas a muscle that lies underneath the trapezius, the rhomboids, is deeper.
Therefore, if we are impacting the rhomboids, which lie just underneath (but both are thin layers of muscle) we are providing deep tissue massage. Since both muscle layers are quite thin however, it is not necessary to go deep, to impact both layers. The key often lies in the time spent on each muscle group; a deep pressure can be felt also by impacting the muscle with a slow, sustained "sinking in" feeling with the practitioner's hand, forearm, or in some cases, an elbow for more temporary, localized depth and sensation.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep pressure is not always required to impact deep tissues, but depending on the client and your needs, it can be beneficial and feel great! Ask your practitioner about the differences between deep tissue and deep pressure and their possible benefits for your body when you book in for your next massage therapy treatment! It is important to communicate with your practitioner about your comfort level and any areas of concern before and before, and throughout the massage. This will ensure that you receive the best possible treatment for your body.
The benefits of deep tissue therapy include but are not limited to: improved range of motion and mobility, increased blood and oxygen circulation throughout the body, temporarily increased vascular function and a slight reduction in blood pressure, and an increased parasympathetic response which can aid in digestion, organ health, a reduction in cortisol and an increase in serotonin.
Many clients comment when they come in for an expert treatment at the Strive Holistic massage clinic that, they've never experienced a treatment with quite the targeted depth that they experience here. That's wonderful to hear, and we love to give targeted, sustained, thorough deep pressure when needed. We certainly hear you, and we know you know your body best! We will always do our best to apply the pressure that you feel helps give you that deep unwinding release. We don't push hard into the fascia and muscle just for the sake of it, or because we have something to prove like some massage therapists. We also believe in the benefits of a good firm, slow and steady pressure that can sink into deeper layers of fascia and muscle when it's not causing pain, but a feeling of deep release. We believe in the benefits of the body feeling that it has been deeply worked through and released with that neuromuscular feedback the depth of pressure provides.
We believe at this clinic that it's okay to bring your body just to its edge of discomfort, knowing that the muscle's release is often the most satisfying when it's at that edge, without causing pain. Our therapists are trained to provide just the right amount of pressure to help you achieve that release, all the while, communicating with you to ensure you are not trying to "grit your teeth" and bear the pain. We have nothing to prove, and neither do you. If we can ride that edge of discomfort while staying within safe pain boundaries, we can help you reach a state of relaxation and relief that also provides that depth of pressure that we know many clients crave, and will often review and visit many massage therapy clinics before they find that which they are searching for. Our goal is to be that clinic for you.
Deep pressure massage
A good tip for any client out there seeking a deep, sustained pressure: since deep tissue doesn't necessarily mean "deep pressure", and often doesn't, based on each individual practitioner's beliefs, it's beneficial for you, as the client to specify "deep pressure" vs. using the term "deep tissue" since many clients can ask for deep tissue, only to come away from a treatment feeling disappointed, because they thought they communicated what they wanted, when in fact that is not necessarily the case. More information is better than less when it comes to deep tissue therapy, and the practitioner will always appreciate more information to ensure that they are meeting your needs and expectations. Additionally, It's also worth noting that deep tissue therapy is a commonly thought of modality, and that's what many clients may ask for, yet it's just one modality of massage therapy, and there are many other techniques and modalities available that may better suit your needs that you may not even be aware exist, such as intra-oral massage therapy, acupuncture, or Graston Technique.
Ultimately, the most important thing is to communicate openly with your practitioner and work together to create a treatment plan that is tailored specifically to you and your unique needs. By doing so, you can ensure that you are receiving the most effective and beneficial treatment possible, and that there is no misunderstanding between you and your practitioner.
Deep tissue is appropriate for many types of clients who wish to be proactive about their health, but some examples of who deep tissue massage may be appropriate for may be a health conscious individual looking to maintain a certain level of mobility and joint health, a person rehabilitating from surgery or a subacute injury, or a person maintaining function despite a chronic injury or pathology. It is important to note that deep tissue therapy may not be appropriate for everyone, such as those with certain medical conditions or who are pregnant and have not received a deep tissue treatment before. It is recommended to consult with a healthcare provider before beginning any new form of therapy.
