Don’t Think, Just Do; The Guaranteed Easiest Strategy To Implement A New Habit
Don’t think about it - just do it. This is a “non” thought process and principle I’ve applied to my life in the last couple years that I’d love to share with you so that you can eliminate any uncertainty, confusion or overthink surrounding implementing new and healthy habits into your life.
My name is Miranda Horvath, Strive Holistic owner, founder, author, workshop creator - providing massage therapy treatments your body craves since 2016, and passionate about encouraging you to reach your potential in health by embracing and learning to love change.
I have this sort of “rule” that I’ve implemented into my life for the last couple of years that has served me very well.
If I “think” something, it means, no matter what, I have to do it, because the thought happens to pop into my head, no negotiations or excuses with myself. The simple fact that you THOUGHT about it, means now you HAVE to do it. The thought followed by the action is inextricably linked.
For example, I live on the 8th floor of my building. Not every day, but sometimes the thought will just pop into my head - “I should walk up these stairs today instead of taking the elevator.”
If you think it, it means now you must do it. Do NOT give yourself time to negotiate with yourself why you don’t need to do it with the limitless number of excuses we can give ourselves, such as “I worked hard today” or “I’m tired”. You will not die, you will be fine. Just do it!
The human brain is wired for constant challenges, chasing the peaks and valleys of our motivation brought by dopamine spikes, followed by that sweet serotonin release after we’ve accomplished something. Our body is constantly in flux via the firing of electrical signals, the reabsorption of liquids, by the exchange of gasses, the rise and fall of our body temperature throughout the day, and burning calories for us to try to achieve homeostasis second by second. We are meant to undergo change, every second, every minute, every day. Change is the only constant.
So let’s learn to embrace change by allowing ourselves to lean fully forward into that change. Our bodies, our minds, our chemicals and hormones are meant for this. You are meant for this.
If you want to implement a healthy habit, there are of course a million recommended ways to do this, so I choose to keep it simple.
Don’t overthink, just simply do. Understand that you are meant for change, you will thank yourself for it, and the best part is this method requires absolutely no journaling, considering, thinking, pondering or organizing whatsoever - you literally don’t need to think at all.
